The Blessings of the Law of Messiah

You’ve heard me speak about the stark contrast between the Law of Moses (Mosaic Law) and the Law of Messiah. Many of you have expressed a desire for a deeper understanding of the Law of Messiah, and I’m here to share some thoughts on this profound theological difference.

In the Mosaic Law, if you wanted God’s blessing, you were to be obedient—period. Obedience was the only way to complete the requirements and, therefore, to be blessed through the covenant relationship with Yahweh.

In the Law of Messiah, we are blessed because of Him, not because we are obedient or because we have done anything to bring us merit or rightness with God.  From an attitude of believing loyalty and out of a new motivation of love for how He has blessed us, we are morally obligated to live and walk in obedience to His will and His new law, the Law of Messiah.

This is where many Torah Observers (10 Commandment thumpers – Yes, Adventists, I’m speaking to us here) make a crucial mistake. They advocate for the Mosaic Law as the standard to follow. However, this is a vital error!  Because once you subject yourself to this law, you are then judged by its stringent requirements.

What Law are you abiding by?

What requirements does that Law demand of you?

What blessings come from said Law?

Under the New Law of Messiah, we are granted blessings STRICTLY by HIS GRACE. Here are just a few blessings that we can have under the new Law of Messiah:

1.  We are REGENERATED, made alive spiritually to once again walk and commune with our Holy God. (Ephesians 2:5; Titus 2:5)

2.  We are JUSTIFIED (Romans 5:8; 1 Cor. 6:11). God declares us righteous because of the righteousness of Messiah (Rom. 3:26) has been imputed to our account. (Rom. 4:22-25)

3.  God has RECONCILED us (2 Cor. 5:18; Eph 2:16-18, 22) because we were hostile towards God, but now we are joint heirs (Romans 8:17) with Messiah. He has given us the Ministry of Reconciliation (2 Cor. 5:17-20) through which we are to live reconciled lives with others. Not counting other’s sins against them.  In other words, we are to live in harmony with others through the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

4.  He is our PROPITIATION (Rom. 3:25). This is just a big word that means to satisfy the demands of something. Jesus’ blood sacrifice on the cross has satisfied the wrath of the almighty God for the debt that our sins require. This allows Jesus to mediate on our behalf.

5.  We have been SANCTIFIED (1 Cor. 6:11; 2 Thes. 2:13; 1 Peter 1:2). We are set apart for holy use because we have been cleansed by His blood. This is where the Sanctuary imagery becomes vividly clear. We are now the very temple of God where he personally dwells. (1 Cor. 3:16; 6:19-20)

6.  We have been REDEEMED (Romans 3:24) out of the slave market of sin. We have redemption because of Jesus Christ’s blood sacrifice. (Ephesians 1:7)

7.  The HOLY SPIRIT has been given to dwell within us (1 Cor. 3:16), fill us (Ephesians 5:18, seal us (Ephesians 1:13-14), and baptize us (1 Cor. 12:13) in the body of Messiah. This is all about becoming unified with the Body of Christ! (Please take note: the Holy Spirit is the seal, NOT the Sabbath… More on this later)

8.  Our HEARTS ARE CIRCUMCISED. (Rom. 3:30; Col. 2:11-13)

9.  He has made us PARTAKERS with Him in God’s divine nature (2 Peter 1:4). This is not claiming that we are now a part of the Trinity as I have heard claimed recently. This is simply speaking of the Godlike righteousness that we now possess. (Eph. 4:24; Heb. 12:10; 1 John 3:2)

10.  We are now literally blessed with all SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS IN HEAVENLY PLACES through the Messiah. (Ephesians 1:3)

11.  We have been DELIVERED from the kingdom of darkness into the KINGDOM OF LIGHT through the work of Messiah. (Acts 26:18; Col. 1:13; 1 Peter 2:9)

Now that we have worked through only SOME of the blessings of the Law of Messiah, my question is this:

“Could the Law of Moses do any of this?”

Without any hesitation, the answer is a RESOUNDING NO!  The relationship that we now have with God because of the blood of the NEW COVENANT is completely different from what the Law of Moses presented.

Thank you Jesus for the BLOOD THAT WAS SHED, that ushered in a NEW COVENANT! Just believe in the life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ, our High Priest, Conquering King, and Messiah. By FAITH you too can enjoy these blessings of Messiah!
