What does a person do when they hear a sermon, whether it is from a pastor, elder, guest speaker, etc., where statements are made during this sermon that are clearly out of step with Scripture? What really is our responsibility? Well, it depends on the relationship that one might have with the speaker. Would this qualify for one of those ‘go to the source’ moments and deal with the concern privately? But what if you no longer have a relationship with the person that would allow this kind of interaction? What if they don’t really care about what you think? What if the concern fell on deaf ears?
Is there an appropriate time to make others aware of the errors in the sermon so that others might not be led astray to believe something that is at odds with Scripture? I have been wrestling with these types of questions after hearing a sermon from someone who once fell underneath my leadership. This sermon was hard on my ears, not because of the person’s speaking abilities, but rather because of the clearly unbiblical, erroneous, blasphemous, and heretical statements being made.
I have always felt a huge weight when speaking during church. Maybe that is because I felt it was a little bit like a modern prophet experience. Now, don’t misunderstand me. I don’t think I’m a prophet, but when a speaker is preaching to others about God, they are functioning as a mouthpiece of God, and for this reason, I felt a huge responsibility to make sure what I was saying was accurate. Building up the body of Christ and edifying the Word of God.
The statements presented below are taken from a sermon preached on November 30th at the Seventh-day Adventist Church my family and I used to serve at as Head Elder, Music Ministry, Woman’s Ministry, etc. And the Church which we left. I share this not to shame or defame the person speaking but rather to shed light on Biblical error, blaspheming, and heretical statements. I love the gentleman speaking and pray for his Salvation, but I cannot stand by and watch others teach biblical errors, lies, heresy, and being led down a path away from Christ.
Some reading this article might be asking:
“Is it Christian to hold others accountable in or out of the pulpit?”
How would you respond if a speaker at a church you used to attend with people in the audience that you care deeply about, made statements like this: (Full Video by request)
“We have a prophet, Ellen G. White. We talk about her, we scorn her, we downtrod her, we dismiss her as though she was nothing from God… We need to get back to the PROPHET!”
“God has sent us warnings. He sent us someone and in His Word to give us advice on how to live, how to live healthy, how to have longevity, how to be a stronger Christian, how to have a relationship with our kids, how to have a better relationship with our wives and our spouses. God has sent information through this prophet, but yet we bury her as though she was not sent.”
“She (Ellen G. White) is to train us. She is to teach us, because there is a time that’s coming on this earth, which is not far off, and some of the things that we take for granted that’s in her writings will get you through those storms, because we have not opened up the pages of her books. We won’t stand.”
“Yes, we have Scripture. Yes, God will save you through his writings, but God also saves you through the Prophet (Ellen G. White), through ‘The Testimonies.’ We have a purpose.”
“What happens when it’s all done when Jesus says, I gave you a prophet, I have you the information, what did you do with it? We are going to be accountable for it. There is nothing that Jesus has given us, either in His writings or through His prophets, that we are not being held accountable for.”
“We have a health message for a reason. Kentucky Fried Chicken will cause you to have high blood pressure. What good are you for Jesus? When it’s time to run, we need to be able to run. God has given us a way to be healthy, quit being sickly.”
“God gave me a vision, a dream, we don’t have much time.”
“When He (Jesus) left and went back (to heaven), he said, I’m going to send you a helper. How did He send it? The Holy Spirit! Then He said, I’m going to send the Seventh-day Adventist folks another helper. How did he send it? The Prophets, in the prophets, Jesus sent us! Yet when you turn your back on The Prophet, you turn your back on Jesus.”
“Yet we still say, I can just study the word. I’m gonna get to heaven. I’m gonna just study the Word. How can you get anything from Jesus if you throw it away? And we wonder why the Holy Spirit hasn’t fallen like the rain on us. We need to face and embrace what Jesus has given us. (Ellen White)”
“You may not need it in the moment, but Jesus can see the future, and he knows you’re going to need it, and so he sent the Prophet (Ellen White).”
“He (Jesus) gave you power to help save the world.”
“There’s no time. No more time, guys, no more time. The Bible says we are in the last generation, and in then this last generation, we have to get ready for Jesus to come. We can’t just go by a whim. Man’s interpretations of Scripture, from generation to generation, even Satan himself knows the Bible. And so when somebody tells you all you need is the Bible. BEWARE… because God wouldn’t have sent us a Prophet if we didn’t need her. Hand in hand. Man will twist God’s words where we don’t understand it. The Prophet helps us to understand some things we get confused about. She is a helpmate, she is a lesser light, a helpmate, a lesser light. We need to stand on that promise.”
This sermon further motivated me to respond to the following topics: Ellen White as a false prophet, The Health Message, Ellen’s concept of sin entering the world, and amalgamation. I plan to examine her statements and teachings on several core topics, one of which was explicitly mentioned in the sermon: The Health Message.
I write this series and speak out to ensure that scripture is handled correctly. And would ask that you might always check my articles for coherence with the Word of God! This is not an attack on someone but rather a response to the public teaching spoken in the pulpit. Let’s all be diligent in handling the Word of God and be willing to admit when we are wrong.
Looking forward to sharing the first article of evidence that so powerfully condemns Ellen White as a False Prophet.
