“Jesus Christ is the only human embodiment of God’s character. As such, He is the only transcript of God’s character.”

Based on my understanding of what Scripture teaches and how many of the authors theologize about Jesus in the New Testament, He is the only Person who should be spoken of as the exact replica of God’s character because He is God. If one were to attempt to prove that Jesus is the very transcript of God’s character, you wouldn’t use the logical arguments that Adventists try to use for proving the Law is the transcript of God’s character: Since God is _______, then the Law of God is _______.  Proving that Jesus is the transcript of God’s character is simple because it is rooted in Biblical truth.  Therefore, it only takes a few passages of Scripture to prove the point.

The Apostle John begins his Gospel with an interesting and quite profound prologue that stakes a claim to Jesus’ identity.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.” (Jn 1:1–2)

At first glance, I am struck by the fact that the English translation capitalizes ‘Word.’ John is making a couple of clear statements about some entity that is considered, λόγος (logos), the Word.

1. The Word has always existed.
2. The Word existed with God, in an interpersonal and intimate relationship with God.
3. The Word IS God. With NO separation or distinction for God.

As John moves through the first chapter, he states in verse 14,

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (Jn 1:14)

John is making another profound statement. The Word, who is God, has become flesh. God has become a man. God took on human flesh and dwelt among humans in the Person of Jesus Christ. Those who experience the human person of Jesus Christ experienced God’s glory through the Son of God, who overflowed with grace and truth. In the Old Covenant sanctuary system, God dwelt among the people, but through a different image, in a special most holy place isolated in a tent. His Shekinah glory and presence were revealed on top of the mercy seat on the Ark of the Covenant.  This was also where the testimony of the covenant contract was kept.

“And you shall put the mercy seat on the top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the testimony that I shall give you. There I will meet with you, and from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim that are on the ark of the testimony, I will speak with you about all that I will give you in commandment for the people of Israel.” (Ex 25:21–22)

This is where God had said that He would meet Moses and speak with him. When Israel conquered the land of Canaan and established themselves there, God’s presence was manifested above the mercy seat in the Most Holy Place of the sanctuary.

“Then the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the Lord to its place in the inner sanctuary of the house, in the Most Holy Place, underneath the wings of the cherubim. For the cherubim spread out their wings over the place of the ark, so that the cherubim overshadowed the ark and its poles.  And the poles were so long that the ends of the poles were seen from the Holy Place before the inner sanctuary; but they could not be seen from outside. And they are there to this day.  There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets of stone that Moses put there at Horeb, where the Lord made a covenant with the people of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.  And when the priests came out of the Holy Place, a cloud filled the house of the Lord,  so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord.” (1 Ki 8:6–11)

But now that God had become flesh, in the incarnation of Jesus Christ, God’s presence was no longer connected to a symbol with the Old Covenant contract over the mercy seat; it was now enshrined in physical flesh in the Person of Jesus.

I will never again state that the Ten Commandments are the transcript of God’s character.  This lowers the glory and beauty of who JESUS is!

Jesus is the one and ONLY TRUE TRANSCRIPT of the character of God.
